MINNEAPOLIS — Supervalu here said Tuesday that Tim Lowe (below right), president of the company’s Shoppers Food & Pharmacy banner, has been named senior vice president of merchandising at the parent company.

He will transition into the new role over time and will remain president of Shoppers until a successor is named, the company said. In his new role, he will report to Janel Haugarth, executive vice president of merchandising and logistics.

“Tim is an energetic and passionate leader who will join an already strong merchandising leadership team,” said Haugarth. “His operations and retail leadership experience will enable him to ensure alignment between merchandising and operations, and other functional and store-level groups.”

Lowe will seek to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of merchandising while driving execution of national programs, Supervalu said. Merchandising, produce and banner merchants will report to Lowe’s team.

He is a 20-year retail veteran who joined Supervalu in 2009 as senior vice president of operations at Shoppers, which operates 56 stores in the Baltimore-Washington, D.C., area. He was named president of the chain in 2010. Before joining Supervalu, Lowe was senior VP of operations at Burlington Coat Factory, and had previously spent five years with Meijer Inc. and seven years with Wal-Mart.

Kevin Holt, who was recently named executive vice president of retail operations in a series of high-level executive changes at the company, also previously worked at Meijer.
