Michigan Workers Approve Contract with Kroger

About 900 members of United Food and Commercial Workers Local 951 who work at 11 Kroger stores in mid-Michigan have voted to approve a new contract, the union said Friday.

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — About 900 members of United Food and Commercial Workers Local 951 who work at 11 Kroger stores in mid-Michigan have voted to approve a new contract, the union said Friday. The new agreement will be in effect until October 2011. UFCW 951 and Kroger agreed to open talks early on a contract not scheduled to expire until October in order to give the local's members health benefit improvements approved in a previous agreement between Kroger and another bargaining unit also represented by Local 876, the union said. The new contract will also provide members with wage increases and other benefits, the union said.
