CHICAGO — Moo & Oink, the four-store chain here, has been placed in Chapter 7 bankruptcy for liquidation, according to reports.
First Midwest Bank, the chain's biggest creditor, said it planned to ask the court for permission to take over the Moo & Oink stores in order to sell them, the Chicago Sun-Times reported. Creditors, owed more than $3.3 million, had been seeking to force the chain in bankruptcy.
The Sun-Times said a group of investors was still seeking to take over the chain and continue its operations, however. Moo & Oink is known for its specialty meat offerings and its focus on the African-American consumer in Chicago.
Moo & Oink also has an ongoing dispute with United Food and Commercial Workers Local 1545, which claims it is owed money for its pension and health and welfare funds.
