Ohio Kroger Workers Vote to Strike

Members of United Food and Commercial Workers Local 911 voted “nearly unanimously” to authorize a strike or other economic action against Kroger Co., Cincinnati, in the event a new labor agreement cannot be reached with the chain, the union said yesterday.

HOLLAND, Ohio -- Members of United Food and Commercial Workers Local 911 voted “nearly unanimously” to authorize a strike or other economic action against Kroger Co., Cincinnati, in the event a new labor agreement cannot be reached with the chain, the union said yesterday. The two sides have tentatively scheduled negations for June 6 and 7 -- plus a session June 8 with a federal mediator -- to negotiate a proposed contract covering about Kroger workers at 28 stores in northwest Ohio. The two sides have been bargaining since February on a contract that originally expired April 7.
