Publix named a best employer for women
The latest Forbes list ranks the grocer 133 out of 400 companies
Publix is one of the best employers for women, according to Forbes. For the fourth year in a row, Publix has appeared on the list — ranking 133 out of 400 companies and ninth in the retail and wholesale industry this year.
More than 60,000 U.S. employees, including over 40,000 women, working for companies employing at least 1,000 people, participated in an independent survey to determine the list. Respondents assessed their companies’ general work environment and topics relevant to women in the workplace, such as career development, parental leave, flexibility, discrimination and pay equity.
Publix Vice President of Human Resources Marcy Benton said that Publix is committed to creating a diverse and inclusive workplace. “We’re proud that our associates feel part of a culture where they can grow and thrive.”
The Forbes ranking reports that a decade ago, about two-thirds of women were in the American workforce. Today it’s 75%, according to the Center for American Progress.
The ranking was created in partnership with research firm Statista to help women identify companies that serve their needs, and for companies to evaluate their own treatment of women in their workforce.
Headquartered in Lakeland, Fla., Publix is the largest employee-owned company in the U.S. with more than 240,000 associates and currently operates 1,346 stores. For 26 consecutive years, the company has also been recognized by Fortune as a great place to work.
