Reports: Wal-Mart Cutting Purchases From China

BENTONVILLE, Ark. — Wal-Mart Stores here is apparently cutting back on purchases from China, according to news reports last week. The National Business Daily in Shanghai reported that suppliers in the country received fewer orders from the retailer this year, worth as much as $6 billion. Wal-Mart bought about $18 billion in goods from China last year, the report added. A T-shirt factory manager was quoted by the Shanghai publication as saying, “We are working hard to explore new clients.” The retailer did not comment. Another unsubstantiated news story said Wal-Mart had cut its China purchases by 40%, according to SinoCast China Business Daily News.
