The long-awaited opening of a Market Basket store in Revere, Mass., will take place next week, according to city officials.
Mayor Daniel Rizzo said the store, located at Northgate Shopping Center, will be officially opening Sunday, with a ribbon cutting to follow on Thursday.
The store, which was completed almost a year ago, was snarled for months as a result of lease renegotiations stemming from a dispute between the board and management of retailer Demoulas Super Markets. Those issues — around board concern that president Arthur Demoulas had conflicts of interest with the store’s developer and landlord — appeared to have been smoothed over by Demoulas’ reinstatement at the head of the company.
“It has been a long, hard road to get our own Revere Market Basket open for our residents, but I'm sure it will all be worth the wait,” Rizzo said in a statement. “We have always believed, and continue to believe that bringing Market Basket to Revere will serve as a catalyst towards future economic development in the Northgate area of our community.”
