Safeway Names Bocian CFO

PLEASANTON, Calif. — Safeway here on Monday said it has named Peter J. Bocian as its new executive vice president and chief financial officer, effective Feb. 19.

PLEASANTON, Calif. — Safeway here on Monday said it has named Peter J. Bocian as its new executive vice president and chief financial officer, effective Feb. 19.

He will report to Robert Edwards, Safeway’s president and current interim CFO.

Bocian, 58, most recently was EVP and head of corporate services and finance at JP Morgan Chase. He previously was EVP and chief administrative officer at Hewlett-Packard, and before that was CFO at Starbucks Corp. He also had a 24-year career at NCR, working in a variety of roles, including senior vice president and CFO.

Edwards has been serving as interim CFO since being named president last spring.

"We are pleased to have attracted someone with Pete's demonstrated business leadership skills and deep financial credentials to our senior executive team," Edwards said in a statement. "His proven ability to effectively manage a broad cross-section of complex finance and administrative functions, as well as his extensive experience with retail-focused companies, will be of considerable added value to our business."
