SILVERTON, Ore. — A celebration of life service was held here Tuesday for Orville N. Roth, an IGA retailer, who died Oct. 13 at age 79.

SILVERTON, Ore. — A celebration of life service was held here Tuesday for Orville N. Roth, an IGA retailer, who died Oct. 13 at age 79.

Roth, who started his grocery career as a box boy at age 16, opened the original Roth's IGA Foodliner here in 1962 — a company that currently operates nine Roth's Fresh Markets. He held the title of chairman at the time of his death.

Roth is survived by his son Michael and daughter Melinda, both of whom are involved in the family business; five grandchildren; a sister and two brothers, and his longtime companion, Verlene Beard.
