SpartanNash launches hiring push for 1,000 grocery store jobs
Workforce expansion reflects continued high volume in food retail and distribution

Grocery distributor and retailer SpartanNash aims to fill more than 1,000 job openings in its 155 corporate-owned and -operated supermarkets.
The hiring drive, announced Monday, includes store associate, director and manager positions; department-specific roles such as bakery leads, deli clerks and meat apprentices; and specialty jobs such as baristas and personal shoppers for online grocery orders. SpartanNash said additional openings also are available at its distribution warehouses and corporate service centers.

SpartanNash said all positions offer flexible shifts for days, nights and weekends plus steady hours “as an essential service provider in a growing sales environment.” Opportunities also are available for long-term career growth and development, including leadership roles in selected markets, the company added.

SpartanNash’s grocery retail banners include Family Fare, Martin’s Super Markets, D&W Fresh Market, VG’s Grocery, Dan’s Supermarket, Econofoods, Family Fresh Market, Forest Hills Foods, No Frills, Pick’n Save, Sun Mart Foods, Supermercado Nuestra Familia and ValuLand.
Overall, Grand Rapids, Mich.-based SpartanNash has nearly 19,000 associates. In August, SpartanNash also initiated a hiring push to fill over 375 full- and part-time jobs at its stores — namely Family Fare and D&W Fresh Market — and distribution center in western Michigan. The company has seen surging sales growth in its retail and food distribution businesses from an upswing in consumer demand during the coronavirus pandemic. Earlier, in mid-March, SpartanNash launched a program to hire displaced workers and students in its nine-state retail footprint and 14-state distribution network for temporary jobs. At the time, the company said “unprecedented” retail and distribution volume was trending at two to three times normal sales levels at some locations since the COVID-19 outbreak.
