OLD BRIDGE, N.J. — An employee at a Pathmark store here shot dead two of his co-workers and then killed himself early Friday morning, according to reports.

The alleged shooter, identified in local reports as 23-year-old ex-Marine Terence Tyler, had begun working at the store two weeks earlier and was part of a small crew preparing the store for the weekend rush before it was scheduled to open Friday morning, the reports said. Local officials said he left the store briefly and returned with an assault rife and a handgun and began shooting at co-workers with the rifle.

His victims were identified as Cristina LoBrutto, 18, and Bryan Breen, 24. There were about 12 to 14 workers in the store at the time, the reports said.

“We are terribly saddened by the incident at our Old Bridge Pathmark store this morning,” Marcy Connor, a spokeswoman for Pathmark parent A&P, Montvale, N.J., said in a statement on Friday. “We express our deepest sympathies to the families of the victims and our appreciation to local law enforcement. Our main concern is the safety of our associates and customers. We continue to work with local authorities during the investigation. At this time, we cannot comment on the ongoing police investigation regarding the incident."
