WILLIAMSVILLE, N.Y. — Tops Friendly Markets here said Thursday that it has acquired four Big M stores in upstate New York and will rebrand them under the Tops name.

The stores, previously owned by the Bonisteel family, are located in the towns of Boonville, Watertown, Sandy Creek and Adams. This acquisition expands Tops’ footprint further into areas of northern and central New York State and follows Tops’ previous acquisition of three Big M supermarkets located in Elbridge, Mexico and Jordan earlier this year.

“We are excited about this growth opportunity for Tops, as we bring these new stores into the Tops family,” said Frank Curci, Tops Markets’ president and chief executive officer. “These stores are a natural addition to our current footprint and we look forward to meeting the needs of our new neighbors and customers, providing them with a positive shopping experience that focuses on variety, freshness, convenience and exceptional value.”

He said each of the four stores will be remodeled and will transition to the Tops banner by late June. The stores will remain open during remodeling.

Tops said all 280 employees at the four locations have been offered jobs with Tops.
