CHICAGO — Workers at six Treasure Island stores here have voted to decertify the United Food and Commercial Workers union, reports said. Of 358 eligible workers, 91 voted to keep the UFCW and 189 were in favor of decertifying, according to the local office of the National Labor Relations Board. The union could challenge the vote before the decertification becomes official next week, an NLRB official told the Chicago Tribune. The UFCW and Treasure Island have tangled for several years. In 2004, union locals called for a boycott of the chain, citing changes in pension and health benefits and an “anti-union” stance. Officials of Treasure Island and of UFCW Local 881, which represents a majority of the workers at Treasure Island, were not immediately available for comment.
