British regulators carrying out an investigation into the competitive practices of supermarkets have asked the country’s two largest food retailers to provide them with emails and other documents, reports said.

LONDON — Regulators carrying out an investigation into the competitive practices of supermarkets here have asked the country’s two largest food retailers to provide them with emails and other documents, reports said. According to a report in the Guardian newspaper Monday, the Competition Commission has ordered Tesco and Asda to turn over documents from a five-week period in June and July to aid an investigation of whether the retailers were abusive in their relationships with suppliers. Tesco and Asda, owned by Wal-Mart, told the newspaper they would cooperate with investigators.
