LUBBOCK, Texas — United Supermarkets’ Market Street banner this week unveiled a new logo at a store in development here.

The new logo features a grapefruit — the state fruit of Texas — intersected by a spoon, which the company said represents its gourmet prepared food offerings. The logo is part of a major brand initiative undertaken by the company almost a year ago.

“We have been working on creating a comprehensive brand strategy for all our retail brands,” said Monica Schierbaum, senior director of marketing for United Supermarkets, in a statement. “When we completed the strategic work for Market Street, we felt the existing logo did not fully represent the brand strategy.”

The new logo — with two different typefaces to represent both “everyday” and “gourmet” offerings — is meant to reflect the stores’ product range, she explained.

The company held a media event Wednesday to reveal the logo on a new sign in front of its newest store in Lubbock, which is scheduled to open Jan. 9.
