According to Bob Hermans, director of food industry programs at USC, the four-day executive-in-residence event is designed to enhance the business mindset of executives and managers in the food industry, with a focus on leadership development, team management, marketing strategy and economic theory.

The two FIEP sessions featuring Raya are scheduled for March 17 through 20 and Sept. 8 through 11.

Raya, who participated in FIEP in 2007, joined Safeway in 1987 as a courtesy clerk in the company's Denver division. She progressed to become a division manager at Vons and vice president, retail operations, for Safeway's Northern California division. She was named Vons division president in January 2012.

"FIEP was instrumental in my development as an executive." Raya said. "It helped me refine my leadership skills, learn new ones, and expand my professional network."
