Whole Foods Breaks Ground in Miss., Eyes A&P Site

JACKSON, Miss. — Whole Foods Market broke ground here Thursday on what will be the retailer’s first store in Mississippi, developers said.

The 31,000-square-foot store at the Highland Village shopping center will open in 2013, according to WS Development, Chestnut Hill, Mass., the project's joint venture partner. Whole Foods, based in Austin, Texas, has 79 stores in development, officials said in a conference call this week.

Separately, Whole Foods said it would open a store in Morristown, N.J., at a site where an A&P store currently operates. Local reports, citing a Whole Foods spokesman, said A&P was to retain the site through the end of next year.
