May marks the latest edition of Barons Market’s beloved Backroom Beer Pairing events-turned-Backyard Beer Pairings that offer shoppers the opportunity to pair craft beers with a tasty snack and all for a good local cause.

The San Diego-based grocer’s Backyard Beer Pairing invites shoppers to take home a featured craft beer expertly paired with ingredients for a tasty summertime recipe—all washed down with safe social distancing.

The menu for this Barons Backyard Beer Pairing includes Cerveza Xteca’s Original Mexican-American Lager paired with pimento cheese pretzel dogs. The beneficiaries for this May’s pairing include Feeding San Diego and the Feeding America Riverside San Bernardino, both of which offer resources to communities and organizations who have been impacted by COVID-19.

“With warmer months quickly approaching, this Backyard Beer Pairing is a great way to enjoy every summer barbecue’s most popular food: hot dogs,” said Rachel Shemirani, SVP of Barons Market, in a release. “People can enjoy good food and beer in the sunshine, while also supporting an organization providing food for families facing hunger.”

Customers can head to any of the nine Barons Market locations throughout Southern California where the featured beer, ingredients for the bratwurst and recipe card for the Barons Backyard Beer Pairing will be on display in the store. Customers will then be asked to sign a pledge card, acknowledging they will participate in the pairing for a cause. For each person who signs a pledge card, Barons will donate $15 on their behalf to Feeding San Diego for its San Diego stores and Feeding America Riverside for its Inland Empire stores. The fundraising promotion runs from May 1-31.

“We’re a local mom and pop beer company in San Diego and take pride in what we do,” said Xteca co-founder Xavier “The X-Man.” “Our beer is very food friendly and pairs great with Barons Backyard Beer Pairing’s pimento cheese pretzel dog.”

Prior to COVID-19, Barons transformed the stock rooms and loading docks of its nine store locations into food and brew speakeasies that donated 100% of the ticket sales to local organizations. Through the Barons Backyard Beer Pairing, the Barons team found a safe way to give back to its communities while also honoring the spirit of the Backroom Beer Pairing events that its customers know and love, said the company.
