Bashas’ Family of Stores is deploying a new point-of-sale system that it said would simply operations, drive efficiencies and better fortify the regional grocer in a battle with big-box stores.
The new system NCR Emerald from NCR of Atlanta, is a cloud-enabled point-of-sale (POS) platform offered on a subscription basis for grocery retailers.
“NCR has upped its game with this all-in-one solution, ready out-of-the-box and easy to connect our store operations,” said Jim Buhr, chief information officer of Chandler, Ariz.-based Bashas', in a statement. “NCR Emerald has the right product architecture to help grocery retailers like us grow and compete.”
Facing ever-increasing competition from big-box stores, family-owned Bashas’ said it sought a strategic partner to help it compete on price, while maintaining experiences—such as loyalty rewards and free supervised child play centers (at certain locations)—that make shopping its stores special.
NCR said Emerald is an end-to-end solution to help grocery stores run more simply, including POS, loyalty and promotions, merchandising, integrated payments and self-service. With its cloud-enabled, API-first infrastructure, NCR Emerald integrates with other applications in the retailer ecosystem and promotes consistency of capabilities across physical stores and digital channels. A subscription pricing model lowers upfront investment, the company said.
Last month, Northgate Gonzalez Market of Anaheim, Calif., announced its partnership with NCR Corp., and its intent to accelerate growth and transform its digital operations through the deployment of NCR Emerald.
According to NCR, Northgate launched NCR Emerald less than six months after signing on, adding that NCR Emerald is on track to launch at Bashas’ "faster than typical POS deployments."
