Big Y Foods Inc. has appointed Colin M. D’Amour as a corporate center store sales manager, in which he will focus on all nonperishable grocery products for the 70-store supermarket chain. He previously was store director in Lee, Mass.

D’Amour is one of six third-generation family members who is actively involved in Big Y, based in Springfield, Mass. He is a grandson of Big Y co-founder Gerald E. D’Amour and son of president and COO Charles L. D’Amour.

In his new position, D’Amour is responsible for the financial, marketing and merchandising performance for more than 2,000 different products, including household items, paper goods and baby care products. He reports to Jason Corriveau, director of center store.

A grocery industry veteran, D’Amour began working at Big Y as a service clerk in 1998 at age 14. He held several positions, including produce clerk, warehouse selector and construction/remodel store projects coordinator, and he completed Big Y’s Supermarket 101 training program.

In 2007, D’Amour served in the U.S. Marine Corps as a second lieutenant and ultimately earned the rank of captain, and in 2010, he was deployed to Afghanistan for Operation Enduring Freedom. He returned to Big Y in 2014 to enter the store director training program, and he was appointed assistant store director at the Great Barrington, Mass., store the following year. By 2016, D’Amour was promoted to store director in Pittsfield, Mass., and later to Lee, Mass.

A graduate of Boston College, D’Amour also holds personal decorations from his military service including the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal and the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal.
