DoorDash may prove a triple threat with its new DoubleDash. The new feature lets customers add their favorite items from nearby stores to an original order from select stores and, in some cases, restaurants for no additional delivery fee or order minimum. Both orders will arrive together and with the same Dasher, the company said of the service currently available with 7-Eleven, Walgreens, Wawa, QuickChek, The Ice Cream Shop and DashMart, as well as local restaurants in certain markets.

Here’s how it works: Customers place their restaurant order on DoorDash and after checkout, look for the DoubleDash option on the map to add items from nearby stores. From the store page, they can select drinks, snacks and a variety of grocery items. Shoppers then add all items to their cart and check out with no additional delivery fees or minimum order size. A Dasher delivers both orders at one time.

However, in its disclosure statement, the company said DoubleDash is available “on select orders,” and “deliveries may arrive separately.”

“DoorDash’s vision has always been to deliver all the best of your neighborhood right to your doorstep, from restaurants to convenience, grocery, retail, pet supplies and more. We are now excited to take it one step further by allowing you to shop across multiple stores and categories, all in a single order,” said Prithvi Guru, DoorDash product manager, in a statement.

DashMart is a DoorDash-exclusive store that offers thousands of convenience and grocery items as well as products from local restaurants. In select markets, the company is piloting DoubleDash with local restaurants where customers will have the option of adding complementary items from nearby local restaurants to an initial meal order.

“We are excited to be a part of DoorDash’s newest endeavor, DoubleDash, and for the opportunity to reach new customers and drive additional sales for our business. Senor G’s Fresh & Healthy Mexican Food provides fresh and unique menu items and now, we’re excited to further delight customers with our offerings,” said Benjamin D. Arreola, owner of Senor G’s Fresh & Healthy Mexican Food in Playa Del Rey, Calif.

“DoubleDash was designed to further our mission of empowering local economies and creating innovative opportunities for our merchants to grow their businesses,” continued Guru. “With DoubleDash, merchants can reach new customers online who are eager to discover and try new offerings that complement their meal.”

From early testing, DoorDash finds the following are popular items for DoubleDashing:

  • Kit Kats

  • Flamin Hot Cheetos

  • Slurpees soft drinks

  • Smartwater

  • White Claw

  • AA batteries

  • Gallon of milk

  • Toilet paper

  • Plastic utensils

  • Dog food
