California’s own Erewhon Organic Grocer and Cafe is opening its fourth location on April 11 in Santa Monica, Calif. Located at 2800 Wilshire Blvd., the new store will feature a patio, a terraced courtyard and a street-level view of the retailer’s open kitchen, as well as an assortment of organic, local and better-for-you products.

Serving the community’s health- and wellness-focused consumers, Erewhon offers 100% organic produce and sets strict standards for product ingredients with an emphasis on functional foods, adaptogens, herbs and superfoods through store programs such as its Organic Bone Broth and Organic Juice cleanses. Each Erewhon store features an Organic Cafe, Tonic Bar and Nutrition Department, as well as a highly trained staff to help guide shoppers through their health and wellness journeys.

"We urge customers to bring their curiosity vs. a shopping list to the store,” Jason Widener, VP of new store development, said in a statement. “We hope they will be inspired by talking with our staff and becoming part of the incredible community that works with us. We believe in constantly rediscovering the power of nature, remaining innovative while honoring time-tested artisanal methods to bring our customers the ultimate in health and wellness."

In anticipation of the Santa Monica store’s grand opening, scheduled for 9 a.m. Wednesday, the retailer on April 1 launched a “10 Days of Erewhon” Instagram campaign featuring daily giveaway contests in partnership with featured local brands, such as Addictive Wellness, Moon Juice and Apricot Lane Farms.

“Today's conscious shopper is more engaged, and they want the purest products with clear traceability," Tony Antoci, CEO of Los Angeles-based Erewhon, said in a company statement. "We are honored to serve such a mission-aligned group of brands, farmers and customers.”

Erewhon aims to differentiate itself from traditional grocers with its tailored product assortment from smaller, better-for-you brands, making product recommendations from the store level often after meeting with the brand’s founder, according to company officials.

The retailer has also partnered with Instacart for same-day grocery delivery and offers a loyalty rewards membership program.

Founded in 1968, Erewhon began as a specialty health food store focusing on macrobiotics and today remains an independent, family-owned company, celebrating its 50th anniversary in business this year. The Santa Monica store joins Erewhon’s three existing locations:

  • Calabasas: 26767 Agoura Rd., Calabasas, CA 91302

  • Los Angeles: 7660 Beverly Blvd., Los Angeles, CA 90036

  • Venice: 585 Venice Blvd., Venice, CA 90291
