As the first modification to its well-known fuelperks loyalty rewards program in several years, Giant Eagle has enhanced the ways Advantage cardholder customers can be rewarded aside from gas discounts alone.

The new program, called fuelperks plus, keeps the 10-cent reward for $50 spent intact, but now allows rewards points to be used for discounts on groceries. Giant Eagle Advantage cardholders now earn rewards on all transactions, including groceries, gift cards, prescriptions and fuel, which can be reciprocally redeemed for either gas or groceries.

The 10-cent grocery reward offers 2% off an order; 500 “perks,” for instance, would equal 20% off the total grocery purchase.

According to media reports, Giant Eagle launched the expanded program in Indianapolis in 2017 and this week began rolling out fuelperks plus in Giant Eagle, Market District and GetGo locations in its core Pittsburgh and Cleveland markets.

Giant Eagle spokesman Dan Donovan was quoted as saying that its Advantage card is used for more than 90% of all of the retailer’s transactions and that customers redeemed $230 million in fuelperks rewards in 2018.
