Grocery retailers are continuing to widen their Wisconsin brick-and-mortar store count as the battle for market share heats up in the Midwestern state.

Discount grocer Aldi is recently announced plans to open a new store in Suamico, Wisconsin, about 10 miles north of Green Bay.

“We are excited to confirm we are planning to open the store later this year, and we will hold a grand opening ceremony to commemorate the new store,” Shane Williams, Oak Creek Division VP told WGB this week. “We will be sure to provide you with further details on the Suamico store as we get closer to the grand opening date.”

Aldi now operates over 80 grocery stores in Wisconsin, according to the discount grocer’s website.

According to the The Green Bay Press-Gazette, the store will be in the Urban Edge Shopping Center. De Pere, Wisconsin-based Festival Foods is located about 100 yards from the Aldi, the local news outlet reported.

Festival Foods, which began in 1946 in a 3,000-square-foot store in Onalaska, Wisconsin, has new store growth plans in its home state as well. The family-owned supermarket said in a March statement that it will open its newest store in Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin, later this year.

Midwestern grocer Hy-Vee is also boosting its presence in Wisconsin. In February, Hy-Vee opened a new store at 2500 Humes Road in Janesville, Wisconsin. The over 97,000-square-foot store is the retailer’s sixth "state-of-the-art" grocery store in its eight-state footprint.

The West Des Moines, Iowa-based supermarket chain also opened in Oregon, Wisconsin, earlier this year. The location at 787 North Main Street, was previously a Bill’s Food Center.

Chicago-based Go Grocer opened its first store in Milwaukee’s historic 3rd Ward this year. The 2,200-square-foot store, located at 415 E. Menomonee St., is the grocer’s first location outside of Chicago. Go Grocer currently operates nearly 20 stores throughout Chicago.
