H-E-B Brings On EPA GreenChill Founder to Oversee New Partnership

H-E-B has joined the Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA's) GreenChill Partnership, which focuses on sustainable refrigeration systems, as it works to reduce its carbon footprint along with retailers across the country. 

The San Antonio-based retailer has brought on the EPA's Keilly Witman as director of refrigerant management and sustainability to oversee the effort.

Witman was responsible for launching the initiative and managed it during her six-year tenure in the EPA’s Stratospheric Protection Division. Her responsibilities will include steering refrigerant strategies and ensuring the company exceeds the partnership’s standards.

Winell Herron, H-E-B group VP of public affairs, diversity and environmental affairs, said the retailer's initiative demonstrates its "ongoing effort to provide our customers with more than just a great place to shop; we want them to know we’re actively protecting the state we proudly call home.”

H-E-B has several stores that are LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certified and has implemented the deign into its newest stores.
