Furthering its commitment to the community where it all began, H-E-B has begun construction of a replacement store in its founding town of Kerrville, Texas. The 106,000-square-foot store is slated to open in late 2020 and will be built beside the existing 79,000-square-foot H-E-B on Main Street, which opened in 1984.

“We are excited to bring a new H-E-B store to Kerrville, the city where it all started for our company,” H-E-B Public Affairs Manager Julie Bedingfield said in a release. “With an enhanced in-store experience and commitment to top-quality service and selection, this new store allows us to continue to serve the growing needs of our customers and provide the community with the best we have to offer.”

The new H-E-B will debut new design elements that are in harmony with the look and feel of the surrounding neighborhood and the Hill Country community, including metal shed roofs and limestone materials, the latter of which honors the company’s second location in Kerrville, which opened in 1911 at the rock Masonic Building on Earl Garrett Street. Other key design elements will include a decorative facade that resembles the retailer’s original store, which opened in 1905 as C.C. Butt Grocery Store. In a nod to the early days of H-E-B grocery delivery, the store’s Curbside logo will include a Model T.

Among the store’s new features is a True Texas BBQ, H-E-B’s widely admired barbecue restaurant concept that was recently named best barbecue chain in the Lone Star State by Texas Monthly. The store will also showcase fresh, quality food options and services that allow customers to choose how they shop, pay for and receive their products, such as with H-E-B Curbside and home delivery.

Some new highlights and updated departments will include:

  • A fuel center with gas and diesel fuel pumps as well as a car wash.

  • A Meal Simple area with options for quick and simple meal planning.

  • Showtime Kitchen featuring live demos and daily samplings using quick and easy-to-make recipes.

  • Sushiya offering handmade sushi selections made in-store daily.

  • A bakery department featuring handmade artisan breads, cakes and a tortilleria for fresh store-made tortillas.

  • A large selection of craft and import beers and wines from around the world.

  • An expanded frozen department.

  • A cheese shop with expanded selection.

  • a pharmacy with drive-thru service.

  • Twenty-two check stands, including several self-checkouts.

As the largest privately-held employer in Texas, San Antonio-based H-E-B has 116,000 partners in its workforce and operates more than 400 stores in Texas and Mexico.
