Harris Teeter will be closing one of its two 201 Central locations next month, according to local reports.
The specialty beer and wine store in Huntersville, N.C., which opened a little more than five years ago, is currently discounting its inventory through Feb. 3.
Harris Teeter officials were not immediately available for comment to WGB. A spokeswoman told the Charlotte Observer newspaper that the closing was a “strategic decision,” but did not elaborate further. Employees were notified of the planned closing earlier this month.
201 Central opened its only two locations in October of 2012, eyeing a growing attention to craft beers, fine wines and entertaining at home. Its other store in Wesley Chapel, N.C., will not be affected by the Huntersville closing.
The stores offer a wide variety of beer and wine, cigars, specialty grocery items and party goods. The stores were named in honor of Harris Teeter’s original store, known as store 201, which was located on Central Avenue in Charlotte, N.C.
Since opening the 201 Central stores, the company was acquired by Kroger Co., which operates the chain as its own division.
Harris Teeter separately this week is holding a ribbon cutting ceremony for its newest grocery store, located in California, Md.
