How Dollar General Will Increase Its Workforce by 6%

Through new stores, as well as distribution center and private fleet growth, Dollar General expects to create about 10,000 net new career opportunities in fiscal 2022—an estimated 6% increase from its current workforce, it announced March 4.  

The Goodlettsville, Tenn.-based discounter recently announced plans to add 1,110 new stores in 2022, which includes approximately 100 new Popshelf stores, a concept that debuted in 2020 and features a treasure-hunt experience with prices mostly at $5 or less. It also plans to add new traditional and DG Fresh distribution centers; further expand its DG Private Fleet network; and open as many as 10 stores in Mexico by the end of fiscal 2022 as part of its first international expansion.

Dollar General said its employees receive competitive wages and benefits, including day-one telemedicine eligibility and Dollar General’s Employee Assistance Foundation, as well as health insurance coverage options, 401K savings and retirement plans, tuition reimbursement, paid parental leave and adoption assistance to eligible employees.

The discounter also offers training and development programs and said more than 3 million training hours will be provided in fiscal 2022.

Dollar General has 17,915 stores in 46 states as of Oct. 29, 2021.
