Hy-Vee Names Jason Buhrow Chief Data Officer

Tech leader will oversee Midwest retailer’s data strategy. Buhrow, who comes from FBL Financial Group, will oversee the development and governance of the Midwest retailer’s data strategy.

Hy-Vee Inc. has hired Jason Buhrow as its chief data officer, effective Apirl 19. Buhrow, who is currently  technology VP for FBL Financial Group, will oversee the development and governance of the West Des Moines-based retailer’s data strategy and focus on innovation in the area of enterprisewide data science, analysis and visualization. 

“We are excited to welcome Jason to the Hy-Vee family, and are confident that his extensive experience in information management and strategy will enable Hy-Vee to continue delivering amazing customer experiences by leveraging data and analytics,” said Randy Edeker, chairman of the board, president and CEO of Hy-Vee, in a release.

In addition to FBL Financial Group, Buhrow has also held technology leadership positions at RSM U.S. LLP and Berkley Technology Service LLC, and he serves on the board of directors for the Norwalk Student Education Foundation and is an advisory member for 100 Men of Norwalk. He has experience in retail, insurance, finance, nonprofit and manufacturing, and has a bachelor’s degree in management information systems from the University of Northern Iowa.

Employee-owned Hy-Vee has more than 275 retail stores across eight Midwestern states with sales of $11 billion annually.
