Drive-thru pharmacies at 11 Hy-Vee stores are providing free COVID-19 testing, the Des Moines, Iowa-based retailer said.

Up to 12 people per hour can be tested, the retailer said.

The tests are free and consumers do not have to have COVID-19 symptoms to be tested, but they have to register online by answering the questions and providing the needed information to receive a test voucher number, testing site and appointment time. Each location is offering testing windows from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays, and from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m. or 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. on Saturdays.

Once the consumer has their voucher number and testing time, they will be provided a test kit in the drive-thru and a Hy-Vee pharmacy employee will explain how to administer the test and supervise the process. The consumer will then drop the completed test in a testing bin. The process takes about five minutes and after Hy-Vee collects and mails in the test, the consumer will be emailed their results in three to five days.
