Kroger Dallas President Adam Wampler Passes Away

Adam Wampler, president of Kroger’s Dallas division and a 30-year veteran of Safeway and Albertsons, passed away June 30, company officials said.

“The entire Kroger family is saddened by the passing of Adam Wampler, president of the Dallas division. Our thoughts and prayers are with Adam’s wife, children, family and friends,” Rodney McMullen, Kroger’s CEO, said in a statement.

Wampler was named Dallas president in March 2020 following a stint as VP of merchandising for Kroger's Fred Meyer division, beginning in September 2019. In Dallas, Wampler helped to navigate the COVID crisis and reach a labor agreement with unionized workers. Prior to joining Kroger, Bartell served for more than a year with Bartell Drugs and more than 30 years with Safeway and Albertsons, where his roles included SVP of operations for Albertsons’ Northern California division.

“We are grateful Adam chose to join Kroger,” McMullen continued. “He was a skilled operator, merchant and leader in the retail industry, but more importantly he was a talented, selfless leader who had positive impact on our associates, customers and communities. Adam will be fondly remembered by all for his compassion for others and zest for life.”

Wampler, according to a local report, was 48. Details on services were not immediately available.
