Instacart’s new alcohol e-commerce launch in partnership with Meijer increases the grocery platform’s same-day alcohol delivery footprint to nearly 75% of U.S. households, according to San Francisco-based Instacart.
“With alcohol continuing to rise as one of the most-popular digital aisles on Instacart, we’re proud to announce the expansion of Instacart’s alcohol footprint in partnership with Meijer,” a company blog post noted.
Instacart now delivers alcohol from more than 180 Meijer store locations across Illinois, Michigan and Ohio.
The Grand Rapids, Mich.-based retailer joins Instacart’s growing alcohol delivery and pickup offering, which spans more than 300 retailers and banners nationwide, including Albertsons, Aldi, Costco, Food Lion, Publix, Safeway, Sam’s Club, and Stop & Shop. With the expansion, alcohol delivery on Instacart now reaches more than 85 million households across more than 17,000 partner stores, says the company.
“We’re proud to deepen our partnership with Meijer, bringing its expansive alcohol selection online and giving customers even more access to Meijer’s one-stop-shop selection via same-day delivery,” said Chris Rogers, VP of retail at Instacart. “We know that alcohol e-commerce is a clear growth driver for our retail partners, which typically see their basket sizes increase by 25% with alcohol. We’re committed to serving as a retailer enablement platform and providing grocers with more ways to bring their entire store online as they continue to grow and meet the evolving e-commerce needs of their customers.”
The online grocery platform first introduced alcohol delivery in 2013 and continues to expand the offering nationwide, particularly with the passage of local alcohol-specific legislation over the past year,. It now operates alcohol delivery and pickup from 26 states including Alabama, Arizona, California, Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, Hawaii, Idaho, Illinois, Iowa, Kentucky, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Oregon, Texas, Tennessee, Virginia, Washington and Wyoming as well as Washington D.C.
Instacart, which plans to launch alcohol delivery in Mississippi in the coming months, says it helps retailers to navigate the permit and approval process in partnership with state and local regulators for online alcohol delivery and pickup.
