Raley’s 'Farm to Fork' Concept Nears Opening
Retailer debuting new concept store in Sacramento. After a yearlong delay, the debut of its Market 5-ONE-5 concept store in Sacramento, Calif., is approaching.
Market 5-ONE-5, the newest specialty store concept from Raley’s Family of Fine Stores, is gearing up for its grand opening this spring in Sacramento, Calif. The retailer is currently hiring for several positions and is finalizing construction at the 11,000-square-foot location at 915 R Street in Midtown.
Raley’s first announced the new concept in the fall of 2016, describing it as “a store that is reminiscent of a neighborhood corner market,” with a mission to serve healthy and nutritious farm-to-fork food. The store will offer dine-in services and beer on tap, as well as a selection of minimally processed, organic, sustainable and free-from products.
Market 5-ONE-5 is being designed in partnership with Stafford King Wiese Architects and will occupy a former office furniture store in Sacramento’s historic R Street District. Construction delays reportedly slowed progress of the store, which was initially forecast to open a year ago. The market aims to cater to local foodies, as well as offer a convenient shopping experience and social environment.
The new store concept is the brainchild of Raley’s President and CEO Michael Teel, who called it “an unpretentious, inclusive and straightforward shopping experience.” The banner will serve under the Raley’s brand, but will operate independently, the company said.
The Market 5-ONE-5 name represents the store's commitment to appealing to the five senses—see, hear, smell, touch and taste—according to the retailer’s website. The acronym “ONE” stands for organics, nutrition and education, and the final five in the store name signifies the five essential nutrients—carbohydrates, protein, fats, vitamins and minerals, and water.
