"We have recognized the need for a new top-of-the-line grocery store for the residents of Fort Washington, a neighborhood we have served for nearly 45 years, and have been looking forward to opening this remodeled location to better serve the community," Giant Food President Ira Kress said in a news release. In an interview with WGB last year, Kress, who got his start with the company as a part-time cashier in college, said the strong foundation of trust that Giant Food had built with customers and associates in past years and decades had proved critical in helping the grocer weather the disruptions of the COVID-19 pandemic. "Had we not done the work we had to build a level of loyalty with our customers, we wouldn’t have made it this far," he said.

Giant Food noted in its news release that more than 180 new employees will serve the remodeled Fort Washington store across departments. Giant Pickup and Giant Delivers services will be offered online and through the Giant Food mobile app.
