Schnucks Teams With St. Louis Restaurants for New Food Hall

Betting big on consumers' appetite for upgraded retail experiences post-pandemic, Schnuck Markets announced the total remodel of its Kirkwood, Mo., store, including the debut of a food-hall concept and a store-within-a-store concept spotlighting St. Louis-area clothing retailer Arch Apparel.

The revamp of the 60,000-square-foot Kirkwood location, which first opened in 1987, is expected to be completed mid-summer. Once finished, the store, at 10233 Manchester Road, will feature service counters from local restaurants, including The Shaved Duck, Seoul Taco and The Greek Kitchen, as well as a common seating area.

Also on tap: a station for kombucha on tap, a rebuilt produce department, a new "natural living" department and an expanded grab-and-go meal section, according to the company. Expanded fresh choices will be a key theme of the remodel, Schnucks stated in a news release.

"We're proud to serve the Kirkwood community and surrounding areas and are thrilled to bring these great new features to their neighborhood Schnucks," Store Manager Heidi Johnson said.

Last fall, Schnucks wrapped up convenience- and self-service-focused remodels of two of its St. Louis stores; in March, the St. Louis-based grocer announced plans to debut a smaller-format concept, Schnucks Fresh, in an 18,000-square-foot leased space in Jasper, Ind.
