Schnuck Markets is expanding curbside pickup to 12 additional stores in Missouri, Illinois and Indiana, the St. Louis-based retailer announced.

The expansion will bring the total number of Schnucks stores offering curbside service to 82. Among the dozen locations adding curbside pickup by this fall is the company's first Schnucks Fresh store, set to debut Aug. 18 at 3605 N. Newton St. in Jasper, Ind. Seven Missouri stores and four Illinois locations also will debut the service.

Schnucks works with Instacart on order picking for both curbside pickup and grocery delivery; in March, the family-owned grocer announced a partnership with DoorDash for delivery of prepared foods (such as rotisserie chickens, sandwiches and chicken wings) from five St. Louis-area Schnucks stores.

As part of the curbside expansion, Schnucks will waive its curbside pickup fee for orders of $35 or more. Currently, the fee for those bigger-basket orders is $1.99 per pickup; the fee for orders under $35—which remains in effect—is $3.99.

"With the goal of providing our customers a seamless shopping experience, curbside pickup is a convenient option for those who are time-strained and always on the go," Schnucks Director of Digital Experience Chace MacMullan said in a news release.

Schnucks' latest announced round of curbside expansion comes as students across the country prepare to head back to school and as consumers cast an eye toward again-uncertain calendars, with questions lingering about how the spread of the delta variant could alter consumers' daily lives—and shopping behaviors—this fall.

Schnuck Markets, now in its fourth generation of family leadership, operates 110 stores in Missouri, Illinois, Indiana and Wisconsin. The full list of stores adding curbside pickup this fall is as follows:
