SpartanNash has promoted Amy McClellan, most recently SVP and chief marketing officer, as the company's new executive vice president and chief customer officer, the company announced Tuesday.

McClellan’s promotion will follow the Dec. 31 departure of SpartanNash Executive Vice President and Chief Customer Officer David Sisk as he leaves to devote time to other passion areas after serving for almost four years at SpartanNash, Grand Rapids, Michigan-based SpartanNash said.

"As a former wholesale customer herself and a grocery industry veteran, Amy brings tremendous breadth and depth of experience to this role," SpartanNash CEO Tony Sarsam said in a statement. "She will be a passionate advocate for our customers, helping them grow their business with a strategic own brands product mix and other SpartanNash services and solutions."

In her new role, McClellan will focus on driving sales growth in the wholesale segment and overseeing customer engagement for all national accounts, independent and chain grocers, e-commerce retailers, and the U.S. Defense Commissary Agency and military exchanges worldwide. She will also be responsible for field merchandising, sales operations, customer service and value-added services.

McClellan began her career in grocery as a part-time cashier at Martin’s Super Markets, where she eventually held advanced positions such as senior vice president of retail. In 2019, SpartanNash acquired Martin's Super Markets.

During her time at SpartanNash, McClellan has also served as division vice president of retail and vice president of fresh merchandising. SpartanNash noted that McClellan also played a significant role in the growth of the company’s OwnBrands as well as the launch of Fresh & Finest by Our Family–a brand that offers affordable and convenient indulgence in deli, bakery, produce and meat–and Finest Reserve, which provides premium offerings in wine, chocolate and more.

McClellan serves on the SpartanNash Foundation Board of Trustees and the Ohio-based Buehler's Fresh Foods Board of Directors. She earned her undergraduate degree in business marketing and advertising as well as her Master of Business Administration from Indiana University.

SpartanNash said a search is now underway for McClellan's successor as chief marketing officer.

SpartanNash is a distributor, wholesaler and retailer with 144 supermarkets primarily under the banners of Family Fare, Martin's Super Markets and D&W Fresh Market.
