Stater Bros. names Gil Salazar new CIO
Salazar most recently spearheaded the grocer’s overhaul of its aging IT and tech infrastructure.
Stater Bros. Markets has promoted Gil Salazar to senior vice president of information technology and chief information officer.
Salazar will report to CEO and Chairman of the Board Pete Van Helden and continue serving as a member of the Executive Leadership Team, the grocer said.
Salazar most recently spearheaded the grocer’s overhaul of its aging IT and tech infrastructure. The work includes a successful rollout of its point-of-sale systems. He also is heading Stater Bros. Markets’ deployment of a modern Human Capital Management (HCM) system and will lead efforts to implement its new Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system, the company said.
Salazar has also managed the establishment of the grocer’s enterprise data foundation strategy, which includes developing a cloud-based enterprise data lake, a master data management platform and other business intelligence tools.
“Today, a company’s technological infrastructure and its ability to analyze business data have an extraordinary impact on its competitiveness,” said Van Helden in a statement. “With Gil’s enhanced role, we will continue to build upon the solid technological foundation that he facilitated and be positioned well for the future.”
Salazar will now oversee the newly established Enterprise Data Management Team at Stater Bros., which includes a Business Intelligence Center of Excellence (BICOE), Data Science, Data Engineering and Data Governance teams.
He joined Stater Bros. in 2013 as assistant director operations/technical support. After a brief hiatus away from the grocer, Salazar returned in 2016 as vice president information technology. He was promoted to his current position of senior vice president information technology in 2020.
Prior to Stater Bros., Salazar held leadership positions at Hyundai Capital America, ConAgra Foods, AIG and Ford Motor Credit, among others.
