Family-owned and -operated Sunflower Natural Foods Market is nearing completion of extensive renovations and expansion to its original store in Woodstock, N.Y. The project has added 9,000 square feet to accommodate a full kitchen, hot bar, salad bar and a small cafe with indoor-outdoor seating.

Sunflower Market has reportedly doubled its freezer space and expanded its produce, dairy, meat, seafood and grocery departments by as much as 50%. The store has remained open for business since the renovation project was announced last August.

“With the expansion, our holistic vision for the Woodstock store will come to fruition: engagement with our local vendors and our customers that produces shared experience and appreciation for healthy living,” said Sunflower Natural Foods Market co-owner Melissa Misra in a statement. “We are creating a dynamic platform on which to offer more educational programs and hands-on learning experiences that center around good health and wellness habits.”

Reports indicate that Sunflower Natural Foods Market’s renovations are 90% complete, and a yet-to-be-announced grand reopening celebration is forthcoming.

“We’ve come so far since opening the business in 1978, but what’s most gratifying is to see how our customers and broader community have embraced a healthier, locally-sourced, organic lifestyle,” said founder Bob Whitcomb in a release.

Known for local organic produce, groceries, bulk foods, fresh meat and seafood, a comprehensive selection of supplements, homeopathic remedies and handcrafted gifts, Sunflower Natural Foods Market has a second location in Rhinebeck, N.Y.
