Target announced July 27 that it will close its stores this Thanksgiving, nearly a week after Walmart announced the same. Instead, Minneapolis-based Target is promoting earlier holiday deals, starting in October and available online and in-stores.

“Historically, deal hunting and holiday shopping can mean crowded events, and this isn’t a year for crowds,” the retailer said in a release, in reference to the coronavirus. “Our biggest holiday deals will be available earlier than ever, so you can shop safely and conveniently without worrying about missing out on deals that usually come later in the season.”

For the latest updates on deals throughout the season, Target is encouraging customers sign up for Target Circle, its free loyalty program.

Amid coronavirus concerns, Target also said it is working on more ways to ensure that its shopping experience is “as convenient—and contactless—as possible” this holiday season. It has already implemented customer limits based on a store’s square footage; increased cleaning of the store, carts and baskets; plexiglass shields at check lanes; masks and gloves for all team members; and reminders for social distancing.
