The Fresh Market is going prime with a new pork program.
The Greensboro, N.C.-based retailer recently converted all of the fresh pork sold at its butcher counters to Chairman’s Reserve Prime Pork to enhance its quality proposition.
Executives from the 161-store chain, which operates in 22 states, describe Tyson Fresh Meats’ Chairman’s Reserve pork “as the upper echelon of quality” in terms of its superior marbling, visual appeal and overall more tender eating experience than other leading pork brands.
“We’re excited to provide our guests with fresh pork that’s the same caliber as our prime beef offerings,” Peter Mayes, director of meat merchandising, said in a statement. “It’s another way that The Fresh Market is helping guests to elevate their grill this summer.” Mayes stars in a new Meet the Curators video series the retailer is showcasing on YouTube. In the retailer’s latest meat-focused video, which offers tips for selecting, preparing and grilling the perfect steak, Mayes is joined by The Fresh Market Director of Communications Meghan Flynn, who is also a registered dietitian.
The Fresh Market’s new prime pork is now available in pork chops, pork tenderloin, ribs and roasts in all of the fresh-focused specialty grocer’s locations and adds another level of premium offerings for the retailer’s Father’s Day campaign—the centerpiece of which is its fresh meat options.
To that end, the chain is touting an “extraordinary, ready-to-cook (or grill) holiday meal offering that serves four." It includes a main course plus three side dishes and a dessert, as follows:
Either four 10-ounce premium choice New York strip steaks or four 7-ounce Atlantic salmon fillets or a mix and match with two of each.
Four veggie kabobs stacked with portobello mushrooms, red peppers, onions, zucchini and squash.
One pound of store-made fresh broccoli cranberry slaw with almonds.
Four cheese-topped, twice-baked potatoes.
Four double-fudge brownies.
The Fresh Market’s complete Father’s Day meals range from .99-.99 (over a 25% savings compared to purchasing individually), depending on entree selection. Guests can order the Father’s Day meal in-store through June 12 and can pick up the meals between June 14-16.

In addition to its meal bundles, The Fresh Market is also endorsing its Tomahawk Ribeye steaks, which weigh about 3 pounds, for Father’s Day feasts.
“When you have steaks that are tender, juicy and, simply put, a cut above what you’ll find anywhere else in addition to fresh salmon fillets, then you can’t beat surf and turf for a Father’s Day meal that he’ll never forget,” said Chief Merchandising Officer Rich Durante.
