The A-Team is becoming the U-Crew in West Texas. The United Family, the Lubbock, Texas-based subsidiary of Albertsons Cos., said it would convert four Albertsons Market locations in Texas to its sister United Supermarkets banner effective July 1.

The change coincides with a decision by United to continue to use the Albertsons Market banner only in New Mexico, where 23 stores operate under the Albertsons Market banner.

The Albertsons Market banner dates to a handful of Southwest Albertsons stores operated by an Albertsons Cos. predecessor to distinguish them from Albertsons banner stores that had been sold. They were shifted to United’s oversight after Albertsons acquired United in 2013.

Company officials said the banner change would grow the United name further in West Texas to two units each in Odessa and Midland. “This move is part of the United Family’s effort to better reflect its West Texas roots and create the best shopping experience for its guests in the Permian Basin. People will see this reflected in the slogan, ‘We are West Texas and West Texas is United,’ ” the company said in a release.

The United Family currently operates Market Street stores in Odessa and Midland, which will continue to operate under their current banner. The company, which has 94 stores overall, also operates the Amigos and United Express banners.

United said it takes pride in tailoring locations to match the community around it, “so not only can guests expect to see their favorite local products, but they will also see products from around the state of Texas.”

The company said team members at the Albertsons Market stores—known locally as the “A-Team”—will continue a practice of volunteering with nonprofit organizations in the region, only under the “U-Crew” nickname for United workers. Monetary donations from United Supermarkets to nonprofit organizations will continue through the donations portal.

These changes will take place at all four Albertsons Market locations in the area. The Midland locations include the stores at 1002 Andrews Highway and 3317 N. Midland Drive. The Odessa locations include the stores at 1350 E. 8th St. and 2751 N. County Road W.
