Funeral services for Peggy Wegman, the second wife of Wegmans Food Markets patriarch Robert Wegman, have been scheduled for Sept. 7 in Canandaigua, N.Y.

Peggy passed away Aug. 28 at age 91. Burt P. Flickinger III, an industry consultant, called Peggy “one of the best two or three co-captains in all of U.S. retail,” helping to support the company, particularly as it related to charitable causes and community. The Wegmans donated millions to education facilities and Peggy was also known for spending hours in Wegmans stores every week and having conversations with workers.

Born Peggy Finigan on July 17, 1928, she was the mother of eight, including former New York State Sen. Rick Dollinger. She married Robert Wegman, who passed away in 2006, in 1977.

Danny Wegman, Robert’s son and Wegmans’ current chairman, said the Wegman family was “deeply saddened” by Peggy Wegman’s passing.

“We are grateful to have known her and loved her, and especially grateful for the many ways that Peggy and my dad made a difference in the lives of so many families in our community,” he said.
