A trio of grocery industry companies routinely recognized for their outstanding workplace strategies and practices—Wegmans Food Markets, Nugget Markets and Mars Inc.—have landed spots on People's 50 Companies That Care list.

Published by People magazine in partnership with Great Place to Work, the 2018 Companies That Care list—to be featured in the Aug. 6 issue of People that hits newsstands on July 27—highlights the top U.S. companies that have succeeded in business while also demonstrating outstanding respect, care and concern for their employees, their communities and the environment.

The 50 Companies That Care list ranks Rochester, N.Y.-based Wegmans at No. 11; New Berlin, N.Y.-based Chobani at No. 39; McLean Va.-based Mars Inc. at No. 41; Tulsa, Okla.-based c-store operator QuikTrip at 49; and Woodland, Calif.-based  Nugget Markets at No. 50.

Colleen Wegman, president and CEO of the family-owned Wegmans, noted the important role employees play in achieving the recognition as a caring company. “When we care about each other, help our customers and give back to the communities where we operate, everything else seems to fall into place,” she said in a statement.

Rankings represent feedback from more than 4.5 million U.S. employees. Great Place to Work also produces the ranking based on the research firm’s database and inside knowledge of outstanding workplaces around the globe. Rankings also reflect assessments of the generosity of each organization’s benefits, philanthropic and community support, with particular focus on activities occurring in the past year.
