Weis Markets said it has promoted John Evans to the role of director of private brands.

In his new role, Evans will continue to oversee product development and sales for the company’s 7,700 private brand products and work through partnerships with Daymon Worldwide, Topco and other key vendors.

Evans joined Weis seven years ago as a buyer merchandiser. He subsequently worked as a grocery category manager, sales manager, and most recently as senior private brands manager. Evans is also a U.S. Navy veteran who served for five years and was deployed in Operation Desert Shield/Desert Storm.

Evans reports to Richard Gunn, SVP of merchandising and marketing.

Sunbury, Pa.-based Weis operates 204 stores in Pennsylvania, Maryland, Delaware, New Jersey, New York, Virginia and West Virginia.
