Whole Foods Market is moving into new territory. The Austin, Texas-based grocer, which recently confirmed it would open its first store in the state of Montana in Bozeman, has now set its sights slightly south on Jackson, Wyo. Whole Foods has entered into a definitive agreement to acquire Jackson Whole Grocer.
Like Bozeman, Jackson is a place for lovers of the outdoors, with its wide-open spaces, multitude of mountains and healthy living vibe. And like its mountainous neighbor to the north, Jackson is an affluent community that attracts celebrities and ski bums alike.
“[It’s a] great, great store and what a fun place for us to have a store,” Whole Foods Market EVP Christina Minardi told WGB’s Christine LaFave Grace in an interview. Minardi added that another Rocky Mountain region store is set to open in Boulder, Colo., in a couple of months, likely referring to the former Lucky’s Market on South Broadway, which the local Daily Camera previously reported was acquired by Whole Foods.
“After much mindful consideration, we have decided to sell our business,” said Jeff Rice, owner of Jackson Whole Grocer, in a release. “We are fortunate to have this opportunity with Whole Foods Market, an organization that is aligned with our mission of creating and sharing exceptional experiences in food and shopping.
“Whole Foods Market is best-in-class at providing such extraordinary experiences and they are often recognized as one of the best companies to work for in America. We are confident that our customers and employees will greatly benefit from the working and shopping experience that Whole Foods Market offers, and we are excited to welcome Whole Foods Market to the Jackson community."
“Like Jackson Whole Grocer, Whole Foods Market is committed to offering high-quality products, supporting our team members, developing successful relationships with our suppliers, and caring for our local communities and the environment,” said Bill Jordan, regional president of the Rocky Mountain region for Whole Foods Market, in a statement.
The transaction is expected to close in early 2021, subject to customary closing conditions. Whole Foods Market will offer positions to as many qualified Jackson Whole Grocer employees as possible, the company said. The store will remain open throughout the transition.
