One of the many changes wrought by the coronavirus pandemic and its resulting stay-at-home mandates were producers taking products directly to consumers, such as Gold Coast Packing, which began offering fresh produce boxes to residents in California’s Central Coast.

Since mid-March, the company said it has sold more than 600 of the $18 boxes, which feature an assortment of fresh, locally grown, ready-to-use (washed and trimmed) vegetables, including salad spinach, cauliflower and broccoli florets, whole Brussels sprouts, broccoli slaw, and cilantro.

The boxes are available for pick up at its sister company, Costa de Oro Winery, which is offering a 30% discount on wine for all customers placing box orders.

“We created this produce box to offer our community a convenient and easy way to get fresh produce essentials without going to the grocery store. When shelter-in-place orders were issued, we saw people were uncomfortable getting out and were looking for delivery or pickup options with minimal contact,” said Crystal Chavez, marketing coordinator for Santa Maria, Calif.-based Gold Coast Packing. “We’re thrilled with the success we’ve had so far and look forward to continuing to serve our community through this unprecedented time and beyond.”
