Kroger’s Murray’s Cheese gets into the subscription business
Shoppers can purchase three-, six-, or 12-month subscriptions, some costing more than $100 a month, to receive regular deliveries of high-end cheeses and more.
Kroger’s in-store cheese shop, Murray’s Cheese, is launching several monthly subscriptions that deliver “one-of-a-kind access to discover exceptional cheeses and pairings,” the grocer announced Monday.
The themed subscriptions are available in three-, six-, or 12-month increments, ranging from $56.67 a month to more than $108.
Delivery is included in the offerings, which feature hand-cut and wrapped cheeses, the grocer said.
Subscriptions include:
The Cheers to Cheese Club (from $85/month), a guided tasting with cheeses and accompaniments that pair well with drinks
The Cheese Explorer’s Club (from $70/month), featuring “bold picks and exclusives” selected by a Murray’s cheesemonger
The Globetrotter’s Cheese Club (from $65/month), focused on a “deep dive” into cheeses from a certain region each month
The Cheese Board Club (from $108.33/month), with an “abundant” selection of cheeses and accompaniments, plus instructions, for assembling a monthly cheese board
The Mac and Cheese Club (from $56.67/month), delivering heat-and-eat mac and cheese in rotating seasonal flavors
Shoppers are given the option to upgrade their subscription by adding items such as Marcona almonds, cornichons, cheesepaper storage bags and other products.
“Whether gifting to a loved one or selecting for enjoying at home, the guided tasting offered is a journey that will turn any food lover into a true cheese expert,” Kroger said in a statement, adding that the goal of the subscriptions is to deliver a “fun unboxing and educational experience.”
Murray’s Cheese, a longtime New York City cheese shop, was acquired by Kroger in 2017 and now has a presence in more than 1,100 grocery stores around the country. Kroger purchased the equity in the cheese shop, as well as its flagship store on Bleeker Street in New York, nearly a decade after the two parties partnered to expand Kroger’s specialty cheese program.
Murray’s operates cheese caves in New York City, allowing it to age cheeses and develop new products not found elsewhere, Kroger said. The company sells more than 150 types of cheese.
