Milk Bar, the New York-based desserts shop known for its build-your-own treats offerings and out-of-the-ordinary flavors, is debuting a line of ice cream pints at Whole Foods Market stores nationwide.
Milk Bar's trademarked Cereal Milk flavor ("tastes just like the bottom of your cereal bowl," the company states) will be offered, as will three other selections: Birthday Cake, Milk Bar Pie (vanilla with a gooey-butter-style filling and oat crumbles) and Cornflake Chocolate Chip Marshmallow. The pints are priced at $5.99.
"Our ice creams are meant for the unapologetically indulgent moments and mean serious business," chef and Milk Bar founder Christina Tosi said in a news release. Tosi added that she had "dreamed about bringing Milk Bar to the freezer section (the holy grail of the supermarket in my opinion) for nearly a decade."
Premium and superpremium ice creams, already on a roll before the pandemic, enjoyed strong sales in 2020 as consumers spending a lot more time at home sought out indulgent comfort foods.
Milk Bar's ice creams for retail may have been years in the making, but this isn't the company's first foray into grocery: Milk Bar debuted in grocery stores in April 2020 with a line of cookies, including Compost Cookies, which feature pretzels, potato chips, coffee, oats, graham crackers, chocolate chips and butterscotch. Milk Bar's Truffle Crumb refrigerated snack cakes followed in stores shortly thereafter.
Milk Bar ice cream pints will be available at additional retailers and on milkbarstore.com later this summer, the company stated.
