ATLANTA — The United Egg Producers yesterday announced the launch of www.uepcertified.com, a website offering consumers and retailers information regarding the scientific standards that define the UEP Certified program. “This online resource is part of our effort to educate retailers and consumers about the egg industry and the UEP Certified animal welfare program," UEP President Gene Gregory said in a release. "We are proud of our industry and have made great strides in hen welfare based on science.” The new site features photos of hens in standard production facilities, as well as UEP Certified guidelines, descriptions of the advantages of both cage and non-cage production systems, and links to UEP member farms and farmer profiles. UEP notes that farmers who commit to their certification guidelines are audited by the U.S. Department of Agriculture or Validus for compliance on at all of their egg farms before they are allowed to place the UEP Certified seal on their packaging.
